Matthew is a Chartered Ecologist through CIEEM; and the Biodiversity Net Gain Lead for England at AECOM. He specialises in the coordination and delivery of Biodiversity Net Gain on large scale infrastructure projects across the UK; including NSIPs across the rail, energy, water, housing, aviation, highways and housing sectors. With a background in botany and protected species ecology he had worked on Biodiversity Net Gain for the last seven years throughout the rollout of all its iterations culminating in the DEFRA Statutory metric; assisting client to navigate the continuous changes to policy and the metric as well as delivering significant improvements to habitats to generate Biodiversity Units both on and off site through Section 106 and Conservation Covenant agreements.

His current client list includes projects for Network Rail, Affinity Water, Severn Trent, National Grid, SSEN as well as several DCO solar projects. He has previously spoken at events held by Imperial University and the University of Oxford and is currently contributing to the consultations on BNG Metrics within Scotland and Ireland, as well as authoring pieces for academic journals and industry publications.
